An exceptional vintage Moroccan wedding throw. The creamy white hand-woven wool is interspersed with rows of metal sequins fastened with orange, lilac and white cotton loops and bands of kilim patterns covered in cotton fringing. Scroll over the photos to see this vintage wedding blanket in more detail.
In the same way that women prepared a wedding trousseau in Europe in the past, it was and still is in some Berber villages the tradition in Morocco for female relatives of the bride to weave her a wedding blanket. The bride wears her blankets like a cape on her wedding day. This vintage throw is in very good condition for its age and still retains the original neckties. After the wedding the blanket is used to decorate the marital home, as a bed or sofa cover or wall hanging.
This Moroccan wedding throw will add texture, a dash of subtle colour and sparkle to a bed or the back of a sofa. It would also make a stunning headboard. We think it would make a unique and stylish wedding gift too.
Please note that this is a vintage wedding blanket and there may be the odd imperfection but we think this adds to its charm.
