The Making Of Our Omar Striped Wool Blankets And Throws
We design our blankets in London and they are hand-woven by master weavers on traditional wooden looms in the province of Al Harouz, Morocco. Our Omar hand-woven wool striped blankets and throws were inspired by the autumnal colours of the English countryside: a warm russet red and moody lake blues against a natural un-dyed wool background.
The entire production process, from spinning the wool, to the weaving is done by hand. We would normally visit the weavers to discuss the colour palette and design and see a blanket sample on the loom so that we can make adjustments if required. It’s always exciting and a little nerve wracking seeing our designs come to life on the loom, however during Covid we have had to work remotely, sending wool samples to Morocco and receiving photos of the designs on the loom from the weavers. Fortunately, we have been working with the same group of master weavers for seven years and have developed a good working relationship which meant we were able to complete the collection remotely. In the photograph below, you can see our Omar blanket design on the loom.
Our striped wool blankets and throws are extremely warm and cosy. They are available with or without pom poms in a standard size of 240cm x 300cm (other sizes are available for trade customers). If you are not sure about the sizing take a look at our Sizing Guide.
