Unique Vintage Kantha In A Striking Abstract Print

A vintage kantha throw featuring a couple of stunning geometric block prints in red, apricot, and indigo with red kantha stitching on one side and a multicoloured striped brocade with a shimmer to it on the reverse.  A lightweight quilt which adds colour, pattern and texture on a bed, over a sofa or as a picnic blanket.

Kanthas originated in East Bengal and Bangladesh for domestic use.  Women pieced together old saris to make lightweight coverlets for their families and joined the saris together with running stitch. Some quilts combine several sari pieces on one side, some have added embroidery, and some have visible patching.

Aalani is handcrafted and has irregularities in the stitching and block printing, but we think this adds to its uniqueness and charm.
