Unique Vintage Kantha
Traditionally from East Bengal and Bangladesh, kantha quilts were made from several layers of recycled saris, joined together by hand with tiny running stitches, known as kantha. Some quilts combine several sari pieces on one side, some have added embroidery and some have visible patching.
This vintage kantha throw features a stunning geometric block print in red, apricot and indigo with red kantha stitching on one side and a multicoloured striped brocade with a shimmer to it on the reverse. Aalani is handcrafted and there are irregularities in the stitching and block printing but we think this adds to the uniqueness and charm of the piece
Vintage kantha quilts work well as lightweight throws over a bed (photographed on a double bed would also work on a king size) or over a sofa. They make great headboards too.
