A large, one of a kind, vintage, cushion featuring bold Rabari embroidery in pinks, blues and orange. The Rabaris are pastoral nomads living in Western India and this piece was originally one half of a camel bag. The cushion is backed with a light brown hessian fabric and has a button fastening. It comes with a removable duck feather inner pad.
This striking piece of Rabari embroidery is one of my favourites. The embroidery techniques have been handed down from mother to daughter over generations yet this piece works well in a contemporary setting. It reminds me of the late New York based graffitti artist Keith Haring’s work.
