Vintage Moroccan Throw Chaima

£225.00

Handwoven Vintage Moroccan Throw Chaima In Bold Stripes

Chaima is a unique vintage Moroccan throw handwoven from local wool by an Amazigh weaver in Morocco’s High Atlas Mountains.  Natural and bold black stripes, with delicate white dot detailing, combine with subtle orange and lilac accents to create a striking and versatile textile for a modern home.

This one-of-a-kind vintage Moroccan throw adds warmth, texture and pattern to a bedroom, living room or reading corner.

Amazigh Craftsmanship

An Amazigh woman from the Ait Hdidou tribe in the southeastern High Atlas Mountains of Morocco created Chaima using techniques passed down through generations.  Originally designed to be worn as a cape, it may also have been worn as a handira or Moroccan wedding blanket, secured at the neck with woven ties or a decorative fibula or brooch.

The flat-weave construction and hand-knotted fringing reflect the artistry of traditional Moroccan weaving.

As a collectable vintage Moroccan throw, Chaima shows subtle signs of age, which add to its authenticity and charm.

Styling a Vintage Moroccan Throw Or Handira

Style this vintage Moroccan throw across the foot of a bed to add pattern and warmth, or layer it across the middle of a bed.  Drape it over an armchair or sofa as a lightweight blanket for cooler evenings.  Chaima also works well as a decorative rug when paired with a rug pad underneath.

Its bold monochrome tones and geometric design complement bohemian, rustic and modern interiors.
